About Gemilut Chesed

Our Gemilut Chesed (loving kindness) group provides home-delivered meals for congregants who are ill or new parents.  We also arrange for hospital visits or errands for congregants who are housebound.

The group consists of men and women, congregants who work full-time and those who are retired, young parents and “empty-nesters” — anybody who seeks opportunities to perform the mitzvah of visiting the sick (bikur cholim). Volunteers are notified when needed, but are not required to respond to every need. We also assist the Chevra Kadisha with shiva meals and the meal after funerals.

Participation in this group can lead to new friendships and a deeper sense of connection to the Kol Shofar community, as well as the satisfaction of helping others.

To join our group of volunteers contact Rhea Brown through the Kol Shofar Directory, or by contacting the office.

If you would like help from this committee, please contact the Kol Shofar office, 415.388.1818 ext. 100, or 106, or sbrusman@kolshofar.org.

"Thank you for all the amazing help from you and all the people who provided us with love, support, encouragement and meals. We waited for the meals and the wonderful people who brought them with anticipation and when we devoured them, we felt the love go down with the food, healing our bodies, hearts and spirits. I will never be able to fully express how much I appreciate all you have done. Your contributions have helped me fight off the poisons that have and hopefully will continue to save my life from cancer. In addition, you have helped me rebuild a healthier, stronger body, heart and spirit, This has and will continue to help me to fight and hopefully overcome the threats and discomfort of this journey that are still ahead. Your help was incredible and I will never forget you all, for I couldn't have done it all without you.”

THOUGHTS FROM ONE OF THE GEMILUT CHESED CO-CHAIRS :

“I began co-chairing this committee 7 years ago and I know that I get more out of it than I put in!  By celebrating lifecycle events, comforting mourners and the ill, or feeding others we develop special connections to one another. What a gift this becomes.”

~Rhea Brown, Kol Shofar member, co-chair of Gemilut Chesed
