Creating a Caring Community Kol Shofar 2009 Retreat
On May 8-10, 2009 the Kol Shofar community headed up to the beautiful Santa Rosa hills of Camp Newman for our Annual Congregation retreat. With this years theme of Creating a Caring Community we were all excited to spend time getting to know each other a bit better. Friday night we kicked things off with a Panim el Panim get to know you activity while the kids played games and met their camp counselors. Shabbat started with a wonderful family service led by the Torgersen family and a traditional service led by Rabbi Derby under the trees.
The day was filled with learning, great food and free time lounging at the pool. Shabbat ended with a fantastic havdallah service and the most spirited campfire I have ever been to! Sunday we participated in an art project with Julie Gilden (see pictures, below). Everyone chose Hebrew letters, then visualized themselves within the letters, then you created your art piece A great memory from a great weekend! Everyone walked away from the retreat feeling rejuvenated, hopeful and closer to their Kol Shofar community.
We cant wait for next years retreat May 7-9, 2010. For
