OUR CAMPUS
Congregation Kol Shofar (CKS) began in early 1962 when a small group of Conservative Jews met in Marin to discuss the possibility of establishing a synagogue. The first Shabbat was celebrated in May at the Jewish Community Center in San Rafael. Kol Shofar continued to grow in its first two decades while moving to different sites around Marin County. Over those twenty years, the community celebrated services at the Jewish Community Center in San Rafael.
Congregation Kol Shofar is the best known, most prominent and well regarded Jewish institution in Tiburon. There are no other synagogues in Tiburon and Kol Shofar is the only place for the Jewish community to come together for holiday, ritual and other religious occasions. The Kol Shofar religious school is the only Jewish program for children to learn about their Judaism in Tiburon and the Kol Shofar preschool is highly regarded by Jews all over Marin County. Chabad of Tiburon is not a synagogue and chabad is a messianic ultra-orthodox sect that does not regard women as full participants in Jewish life.
